Dog friendly coffee shops in Folkestone is a topic I could talk about all day! My greatest passion in life is dogs, and my second may well just be coffee. If you follow Doherty Dog Services on Instagram (if not, go give us a follow!) You probably already know that I absolutely love going for a nice long walk and grabbing a coffee with my boys as often as I can. In this post, I’m sharing my favourite dog friendly coffee shops in Folkestone. I first wrote this back in 2022 and I’m now updating in March 2026. There’s been some fab new additions to the dog friendly coffee shop scene in the town! I’ve also added info on how dog friendly a place actually is.
Mugs
Address: The Urban Room, Harbour St, Tram Rd Car park, Folkestone CT20 1QN
Mugs is basically a pop-up coffee shop in a car park. I know that sounds strange, but hear me out. The coffee is great, the staff are absolutely lovely and their food is lush. Our go to half term order is a Mocha and vegan sausage roll for me, peanut butter cookie for my eldest and a W’s chew for Duke. We all love it!
Dog friendly: There’s indoor and outdoor seating, plus it’s pretty spacious inside. Most dogs, including Duke, find it easier to wait outside for a takeaway coffee. Being inside a coffee shop is at best boring and at worst frustrating and stressful for a lot of dogs.

Orchard Lane
Address: 80 Sandgate High St, Sandgate, Folkestone CT20 3BX
As well as their delightful coffee, the food at Orchard Lane is superb too. They offer a selection of meat-free savouries, cakes and bakes as well as sandwiches made with sourdough from local bakery Docker. There’s room to sit in with your dog or you can take your coffee across the road to the beach. Check the council’s beach restrictions here as the rules on whether dogs are allowed on the beach or off lead change seasonally.
Dog friendly: There’s a good bit of space to order your drinks but the seating area is quite cosy. Given it’s high street location the seating area gets a lot of people, dog and car traffic going past so can be loud and potentially over-stimulating. Unless your dog is very confident, you’re probably best grabbing a takeaway coffee and heading over to the beach.

Steep Street
Address: 18, 24 The Old High St, Folkestone CT20 1RL
Steep street is a beautiful coffee shop on Folkestone’s Old High Street whose shelves are lined with books. Due to it’s unique style and delicious food and drinks, this spot is super popular with locals and visitors so get there early if you want to get a table. From here, head up the hill, take a left and wander through the Bayle (the oldest part of Folkestone). Head through the churchyard and you can walk along the Upper Leas for spectacular views of the coast.
Dog friendly: Whilst Steep Street is lovely, it’s not a great spot for dogs unless they’re super confident. That’s because it can get very busy and the queue can take a while. Also, there’s not a huge amount of space to move around, particularly if you need to avoid interactions with other dogs. It’s not the spot I’d recommend unless you’ve got a very laid back dog.
Brew
Address: 83 Cheriton Rd, Folkestone CT20 1DG
I love Brew! This is the dog friendly coffee shop in Folkestone I visit the most. Not only is their coffee fantastic, but their breakfast and brunches are absolutely delicious. If you’re a fan of a fancy, grease-free Full English, definitely give Brew a visit. What I also really like about Brew is that they offer a loyalty card. Once you’ve got eight stamps on your loyalty card, your next coffee is free. Don’t ask how many cards I’ve got through…
Dog friendly: Brew is a good one if you’re wanting to practise your dogs ability to settle in public places. It’s fairly spacious inside and there’s inside seating too. From Brew, you can head across to the beautiful Kingsnorth Gardens but dogs must be kept on lead. Or, take a left and head past the Co-op to Radnor Park. Dogs can be off lead here and there’s an enclosed dog run too.
Okay Folke
Address: 98 Sandgate Rd, Folkestone CT20 2BB
I visited Okay Folke for the first time recently- in the name of research for this very blog post in fact. I love the fact that it’s women owned and ran. The coffee was great and I’m pretty sure it was the best value large mocha of the dog friendly coffee shops in Folkestone. They had a great selection of bakes and small meals on offer. I didn’t partake on this occasion but I’ll pop in again soon so I can give a more thorough review- again, in the name of research of course.
Dog friendly: Nice and spacious inside, you could easily find a suitable spot if your dog needs a bit more space from others. Due to its location on the high street the outdoor seating is quite a high traffic area. It’s just opposite a slipway that leads straight onto the Upper Leas though so a good one to grab a takeaway coffee at the start of your walk.
Mr Whippets
Address: 72 Sandgate High St, Sandgate, Folkestone CT20 3BX
We first met Eva & Tom who run Mr Whippets a few years back when we first started walking their beautiful dogs Floyd and Rita, who still go out adventuring with Dan every week (you may be unsurprised to learn they are Whippets!). They offer fantastic coffee and a great range of sweet treats and savouries. We recently had their carrot cake a red velvet cake and both were absolutely drool worthy!
From Mr Whippets, you can head across the road to the beach or take a left to stroll down to Enbrook Park. There’s a lovely walk here called the 1 mile trail and there’s an enclosed dog run at the end of the trail too.
Dog friendly: There’s a good amount of space to wait when ordering your coffee and the back room is really spacious, so ideal for less confident dogs. The outdoor seating area can get quite busy as it’s right on the high street. So if your dog needs space I’d recommend sitting in the back area or grabbing a takeaway coffee and heading to the beach across the road.
